Mesquite Arts Council today announced that it has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host The Big Read in Mesquite, Texas. The Mesquite Arts Council is one of 208 libraries, municipalities, and arts, culture, higher education, and science organizations to receive a grant to host The Big Read from September 2008-June 2009. The Big Read gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 23 selections from American and world literature. The Big Read in Mesquite, Sunnyvale, Balch Springs, Forney and Terrell will focus on Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Activities will take place from September 8 through November 6, 2008.

The Mesquite Arts Center supports multiple arts disciplines including music, drama, visual arts and literary programming. The 500 seat Concert Hall features a canopied stage that is both intimate and acoustically impressive. The Black Box Theatre is completely flexible for both the audience and theatrical artists. The Arts Center also features the Main & Chamber Galleries, Jeann & Ralph Wisenbaker Courtyard and the Rehearsal Hall.
