Artist Opening Reception: Made From Scratch
Please join the Mesquite Arts Council for the opening reception of Made From Scratch, an exhibition by Raymond Butler, a multidisciplinary artist, designer, storyteller, and curator from South Dallas.
Inspired by his experiences growing up in South Dallas during the 1990s, Butler’s work explores childhood memories, imagination, nostalgia, identity, and community through painting, illustration, sculpture, and mixed media.
At the heart of the exhibition is Sammy the Sandwich, a cartoon representation of Butler as a child. Through Sammy’s adventures, Butler transforms memories of neighborhood life, family traditions, favorite childhood foods, pop culture, and everyday experiences into colorful and engaging visual stories.
Bold colors, playful imagery, and whimsical compositions celebrate the creativity, humor, and resilience of childhood while highlighting the lasting impact of memory and imagination.
The opening reception provides an opportunity to meet the artist, explore the exhibition, and learn more about the stories and experiences that inspired the work. Visitors are invited to reflect on their own childhood memories and the everyday moments that shape our identities and connections to community.
Sips and light bites will be served.
